Frequently Asked Questions

Following are answers to frequently asked support questions. Don't see your answer here? No problem. Contact us right now and we'll be happy to help.

1. I am getting poor quality images from the printer. How can I tell if it is a problem with the printer or a problem with the toner cartridge?
Change the toner cartridge and print several pages. If the problem persists, it is most likely a service problem with the printer. If the problem goes away, it is most likely a problem with the toner cartridge. If you’re not sure, call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 and we can help you over the phone. The call and technical phone support are FREE.

2. How do I know if my printer is still under warranty?

Get the serial number and date of manufacture from the printer and call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555. The call and phone support are FREE. We will contact the manufacturer on your behalf and determine if the printer is still under warranty. Sometimes the printer is still under warranty past the one-year period from the date of manufacture; it will depend on the date purchased according to the manufacturer’s database.

3. How do I know if a problem is with my printer, or the problem is with the computer / computer network?

Call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 and we will walk you through a simple procedure to determine whether or not the printer is operating properly. The call and phone support are FREE.

4. I am getting a paper jam error, but there is no paper in the printer. What do I do?

Call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 and we will walk you through a simple procedure to double check the paper path on your specific printer. The call and phone support are FREE. Sometimes a small piece of paper can get lodged in an area that is difficult to see and will alert a paper sensor, which tells the machine that there is a paper jam even though you can’t see it.

5. The printer is displaying a “USER MAINT” message. What does that mean?

Most printers have a scheduled maintenance interval that requires part replacement to give you proper performance. The printer has a page counting device that alerts the user to call a service provider to perform the scheduled maintenance. Call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 for a maintenance quote. We will be happy to discuss your service options.

6. My printer says “TONER LOW” and I just put a new toner cartridge in. What do I do?
Remove the toner cartridge and inspect it for a seal that needs to be pulled prior to operation. Often the seal has not been pulled and the toner is not detected in the printer. If this fails, call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 and we will walk you through a simple procedure that will get you printing right away. The call and phone support are FREE.

7. I am getting continual paper jams. I remove the paper and the printer still jams. What do I do?
Most likely, your printer needs service because the paper feed rollers are worn or there is an impediment in your machine. Call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 and we will be happy to discuss your service options.

8. The printer is making a grinding or a squeaking noise. What do I do?
Most likely, your printer needs service because a part is worn or damaged from operation. Like any mechanical device, a printer will wear from normal use. Any unusual noises typically indicate the need for service to the printer. Call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555 and we will be happy to discuss your service options.

9. There is a label stuck to the printer rollers or toner cartridge. What do I do?
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE LABEL. Call Laser’s Resource at 616-554-5555. Oftentimes a printer can be returned to service without damaging the internal parts of the printer if a qualified technician can remove the label. Many users attempt to remove stuck labels and damage the printer, causing a more expensive repair. If the label is stuck in the cartridge, remove the cartridge and replace with a new cartridge.

10. What kind of labels can I use in my laser printer?
ONLY use labels from high quality paper manufacturers that are specifically designed for a laser printer. The laser printer heats up the paper to 365 degrees to make the dry toner powder stick to the paper. Using labels that are not designed to go through the very hot fusing process will almost always result in damage to the printer and costly repairs. If you are not certain whether or not your labels are safe to run through the printer, check with the manufacturer of the labels to see if they can be used in a laser printer.

11. What kind of transparencies can I use in my laser printer?
ONLY use transparencies that are specifically designed for a laser printer. Some transparencies are not designed to withstand temperatures of 365 degrees and will melt in the printer’s fuser assembly, causing damage to the printer and costly repairs. If you are not certain whether or not your transparencies are safe to run through the printer, check with the manufacturer of the transparencies to see if they can be used in a laser printer.
